IMPACT Network Meeting
Developing provision to support the inclusion of disabled staff
30 January 2008
The meeting was attended by staff working to improve provision for disabled staff in a range of roles in UK HEIs including Equality & Diversity, Human Resources and Disability practitioners.
Participant feedback from the day included:
The workshop was excellent and I've gained a lot of ideas on a way forward.
Some great ideas to take back to my HEI.
I will use the activity with our disabled staff working group.
It was most useful to share ideas with colleagues - being able to benchmark informally.
Thanks for a really positive, and useful event. I have bee quite energised as a result, and plan to draft a report for the head of department on issues, barriers and ways forward - and relate this to our existing DES.
The meeting received informative and thought provoking presentations from Honey Lucas, ECU, and Sian Davies, Commission for Disabled Staff and UNISON. Cindy Williams-Findlay, Wolverhampton and Ian Clarke, Leeds Met, provided useful examples of current practice from the HE perspective in their input. The Q&A sessions allowed for a lively debate and participants benefited from sharing practice. Colleagues expressed the view that they would like to meet again to review developments and share practice on an annual basis.
